A Study on the Factors Influencing Employee Retention in IT/ITES Sector with Special Reference to Chennai, South India

Human resources are the means of support in any organization. Nowadays most of the organisations are technology driven, yet they need people to run control the technology. People are the most important and dynamic resources of any organization. Today, acquiring, managing and retaining talent is biggest challenge that organisations are facing. Individuals once trained have a tendency to move to other organizations for better prospects. Lucrative salary, comfortable timings, better ambience, growth prospects are some of the factors which prompt an employee to look for a change. High employee attrition is a concern at Information Technology (IT) and IT Enabled Service companies. IT majors are losing their employees to next-generation technology-backed companies where they get to learn latest skills, better pay package and, of course, a chance to work with new technology and domains. This thriving sector is captivating a major chunk of people parting large IT firms. The sample was drawn from the IT and ITES companies across Chennai and constitute of 350 employees. The main objective of the study is to identify the significant factors that influence employee retention.
