Multi Fault Diagnosis in MVIM by Adapting Non Stationary Signal Processing: Hilbert-Huang Transform

Medium Voltage Induction Motor occupies the pivot role in almost all areas of modern industries for its automated operations. In spite of its unmatched performance, simple and rugged construction, these motors are also prone to failure due to its continuous operation, external disturbances and wear and tear. Timely identification of the condition of these motors will be much appreciated to avoid the delay in the entire process which occurs due to possible faults. The major classifications of motor faults are i) Stator winding faults due to unbalanced supply voltage and opening or shorting of stator windings, ii) Mechanical faults arising due to bearing faults, air gap eccentricity due to bend shaft and broken bars in the rotor. Analysis of motor stator current parameters is one of the simple technique which is followed due to its low instrumentation cost and non invasive method adopted for fault diagnosis. The main drawback of this method is, it is low efficient and less accurate. To overcome this drawback and to effectively diagnose the various faults, this paper proposes a novel method in which the Non Stationary Signal of Motor Stator Current Parameters is processed using Hilbert-Huang Transform to identify the exact condition of the motor.
