An Artificial Technique Based Approach for Channel Selection and Classification of Electroencephalogram Signals

An electroencephalogram-based brain-computer-interface acts as a communication channel between the human brain and a computer. Amongst the various available techniques, an artificial neural network (ANNs) is implemented for channel selection. However, a conventional ANNs provides a lack of an explicit input optimization mechanism. Apart from that, results of ANN are not easily interpretable. Hence, in order to overcome the above drawbacks, a genetic algorithm based ANN is proposed. Thus the effectiveness of the channel selections is demonstrated using MATLAB and from the results it is evident that the proposed technique improves the simplicity of the classifier.
