Detection of Residual Nodes in Wireless Sensor Networks by Node Weighting Algorithm

In wireless sensor networks some of the nodes are left out without being a member of any of cluster during clustering process and act as the Residual Node. Such node also acts as a hidden or malicious node and consumes more energy and reduces the overall network performance. This paper proposes a simple and efficient methodology for clustering the nodes based on node weighting Algorithm. This algorithm finds the weight of all neighbouring node of the cluster head and finds the Euclidean distance from cluster head to all of its neighbouring nodes within the cluster. The performance of the proposed system is analyzed in terms of energy consumption, packet delivery ratio and latency against the following attacks: packet dropping attack, false reporter attack and acknowledgment hacking attack.
