Digital PWM Technique for Dexterous Utilization of the DC Power Supply in DC-AC Converters

Modified carrier to increase the output voltage of a single-phase pulse width modulated inverter is proposed, which achieves overmodulated fundamental voltage values with modulation depths of the linear range, while reducing the total harmonic distortion and lower order harmonics dominancy. Computer simulation and experimental results confirm the betterment of proposed carrier modification and also clearly reveal the limitations of triangular carrier based sinusoidal pulse width modulation. This is achieved without pulse dropping or any other form of mode-changing.
